Town retail gets a "vote of confidence"

Tuesday 03 December 2024

The owner of one of the most prominent buildings in town has confirmed that the current shop premises will not be changing into a restaurant.

A spokesperson for the Fuller Group confirmed that an application has recently been submitted for a change of use from retail to restaurant/cafe for 1-3 High Street.

That is the shop adjacent to the Albion House, near to the Town Church, currently occupied by Mountain Warehouse.

The spokesperson told Express that the planning application was submitted to cover the possibility that the current lease would not be renewed. However, they recently received some good news.

"We are pleased to report that that is not the case as they have expressed a desire to remain, and we are expecting them to enter into a new lease," said the spokesperson for the Fuller Group.

"This is a significant vote of confidence for their retail operation in our premises, and more generally for retail in the High Street," they added.

Mountain Warehouse currently has a sale on, offering discounts of up to 60% off some items.
