Terry Waite heads up Literary Festival Saturday events

The Honorary Chairman of the Guernsey Literary Festival will take centre stage at one of its key events this evening.

Terry Waite joins a stellar line up at this year's event which has also included Katie Piper, Dr Ranjan Chatterjee and Evan Davis.

This year's festival started earlier this week with some events sold out beforehand.

Among the events on the agenda for today are a talk by and Q&A session with broadcaster and author June Sarpong, hosted by Express Editor Laura Clayton.

Ms Sarpong was awarded the MBE following work in the media and her efforts to put the spotlight on groups who are often marginalised in society.

Also today, Jon Ozanne of CT Plus will be reading exercpts of the book he wrote to raise funds for Autism Guernsey. There'll also be a focus on poetry and the results of the Write Stuff competition.

This evening Mr Waite, will be speaking at the Festival Hub on his experiences of spending almost five years in solitary confinement after he was captured in Kuwait. He will be discussing his book, Solitude, which recalls his encounters with people who have experienced very different ways of being solitary, sought and unsought.
