Traffic lights will go up on the seafront at two points in June while the finishing touches are applied to the La Piette pumping station project.
Guernsey Water has confirmed that all the pipework has now been installed and blockwork completed inside the critical wastewater pumping chamber.
But it says traffic lights will again be needed on St George’s Esplanade before the project is complete; firstly on 1 June until 2 June between 07:30 and 16:00, then on 15 June between 07:30 and 15:00.
The latter is so teams can remove the tarmac placed on the traffic island while lanes were reduced.
“During the course of the works we've come across a few bits which mean we will, temporarily, have to use them so we can safely carry out what needs to be done. We take the disruption this causes seriously, and in order to minimise it, we are going to work the weekends so we don'timpact the commuting rush hours,” the utility said.
“We hadn't planned for this to happen, in fact we had actively done whatever we could to avoid it.”
Guernsey Water is currently commissioning a new panel to cap off the chamber which it says is “at the cutting edge of technology” and will allow for temperature controls in the operating kiosk “making it far more resilient”.
The £300,000 replacement project is now expected to be complete in mid-June.
