Tax deadline not to be confused with additional grace period

Thursday 02 March 2023

The deadline for people needing to submit their 2021 tax return has not been extended again, despite concerns raised on social on media that it had.

Revenue Service announced in January that it would be extending the deadline for 2021 returns by one week. This was largely due to the States of Guernsey website being offline several times during December and January.

It meant the new deadline was the 7 March, a date that hasn’t been moved again.

This is despite one commentator on the Facebook group Guernsey People Have Your Say suggesting that they’d been told – in person - that it had been moved to the 17 March.

Express reached out to the States of Guernsey and the Revenue Service provided the following response:

“The deadline remains the 7th March.  This year the Revenue Service is allowing a short grace period before penalties will begin to be applied, but we would strongly encourage all customers not to submit later than the deadline.”
