The States’ Assembly & Constitution Committee want to streamline the election process, after consultation with the island's parishes.
This would mean that for the 2025 General Election all polling stations will be super polling stations, allowing voters to choose the candidates they want at any of Guernsey’s polling stations.
SACC says the decision is based on evidence from the last election, when the two 'super polling stations' drew in massive amounts of footfall compared to some of the smaller stations drawing in very few people.
Should SACC’s proposals get through, we will see a total of eight super polling stations across the island, with three opening on two proposed pre-polling days.
It means that on Sunday 15, Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 June 2025, people will be able to cast their votes from Beau Sejour, Les Maingys Activity Centre, or Styx Community Centre, whilst the traditional voting stations for Castel, St.Martin's, St Sampson's, St Andrew's and St Peter Port will be open to all voters ONLY on Wednesday 18 June.
Deputy Carl Meerveld, President of the States’ Assembly & Constitution Committee, said: “The Committee believes it is important that the community can vote in any polling station, as this reflects our island-wide voting system and ensures that nobody can turn up at the wrong venue.

“Having considered footfall during the 2020 election, and taking feedback from the parishes into account, the Committee is confident that its proposals for 2025 will ensure that the electorate has plenty of choice over where to cast their votes.”
Jo May, a Castel Douzenier appointed to lead parish liaison for the General Election, said: “The majority of Parishes were supportive of proposals to consolidate the polling stations and for them all to be 'super polling stations', with any concerns being addressed early on, and plans adapted accordingly.”
