The Guille-Allès Library summer reading challenge is ready to launch today, with this year's theme being 'Space Chase'.
Children aged between four and eleven are encouraged to embark on a reading mission across the galaxy. The challenge is to read six books over their school summer holiday, charting their progress and collecting stickers as well as other incentives.
The 2019 scheme launches today, with registration open at the children's library. The challenge will conclude on 6 September as the schools resume for the autumn term.
Children's Services Manager Cornelia James said: "We're over the moon about this year's summer reading challenge - quite literally! The theme this year is inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing in July 1969. We hope children have out-of-this-world fun reading their six books this summer."

The summer reading challenge has previously proven to be very popular in Guernsey, with more than a thousand children expected to sign up this year.
The challenge happens annually and is run by a national charity called The Reading Agency in partnership with the UK public library network to encourage children to read and to prevent reading skills and confidence dipping during the long school holiday.
The Guille-Allès Library is also looking for volunteers over the age of fourteen to lend a hand. They'll be tasked with encouraging younger children in their reading which will benefit the older teenagers with new skills for them to learn too.
