Guernsey Water is using St Saviour's reservoir again, after taking it 'off line' for three weeks following high levels of herbicide in the water there.
Further tests have been carried out, which have shown a fall in levels of herbicide, so the reservoir has been put back into public supply.
The utility said on Friday that the latest test results showed the levels of herbicides had now fallen in line with UK Drinking Water Regulations, but increased monitoring will be continuing for the time being.
Margaret McGuinness, Guernsey Water’s water quality risk manager said: “Incidents like this really show the importance of our ongoing testing schedules and risk management procedures. These routine tests and pre-prepared procedures are what enable us to ensure we are able to manage water quality in our reservoirs and treatment works effectively in order to continue providing safe drinking water for the Island.”
St Saviour’s reservoir was isolated from public supply for approximately three weeks. During that time the island's water supply continued to be maintained from alternative reservoirs.
