St Sampson's has concerns with its waste contractor

St Sampson's Constables "have raised concerns and will raise them again" about the service the parish's waste contractor is delivering, following reports of disruption and repeated damage to food caddies.

Senior Constable Paul Le Pelley said the parish's displeasure will be voiced at the next service agreement meeting between the Douzaine and States Works.

It comes after a parishioner shared a video appearing to show a bin man carelessly throwing caddies back after emptying them, with the complainant saying they had hit people's vehicles. 

Contacted about the video, Paul Le Pelley said he had not yet seen it, but said the reported incident was far from a one-off.

"I regularly get called by parishioners asking how they can get a new one [food caddy] because their's is damaged," he said. 

"There have been two or three nights I have been up and about at 2/3 in the morning and have seen inappropriate placing back of food bins in my road."

He said there had also been many reports of caddies left out on the pavement during windy weather, causing them to blow out into the road, which is dangerous for vehicles during bad visibility.

"There doesn’t seem to be the care that there should be. Even if I was doing a thousand a night I would show that care."

"It has been raised before and it will be raised again. It is on the agenda, at least on our side, for our next service agreement meeting [with States Works]." 

A spokesperson for States Works said the CCTV footage being circulated on social media was under investigation.

"States Works is aware of the video and are currently investigating the footage. States Works will be taking this seriously but would not be able to comment on disciplinary actions towards staff," they said.
