St Andrew's Liberation Day festivities take shape

Thursday 06 May 2021

Live music and family fun will be the focus of Liberation Day celebrations in St Andrew’s.

The event, running from noon, is being organised by The Last Post pub, which has long been at the centre of Liberation Day festivities in the parish.

Rue des Buttes, the lane which runs alongside the front of the pub, will be closed to traffic to provide space for family activities along with a barbecue and acoustic music stage.

The Vale Earth Fair will be hosting a series of bands throughout the afternoon and early evening in the pub’s rear car park and beer garden where there will also be a static motorcycle display. At dusk, the music will continue inside the pub where there will be DJ sets.

“After the disappointment of last year’s abandoned events, we wanted to re-ignite the celebrations," said Tomas Gudelis, Landlord of the Last Post.

“It’s Guernsey’s most important day and it’s an opportunity for people to celebrate, relax and enjoy time with their families.”

Deputy Steve Falla, a St Andrew’s resident, said community events are more important than ever this year, after large-scale events in Town were rearranged in light of Public Health advice.

“The parish has a reputation for putting on great out-of-Town Liberation Day events. With restrictions on large public gatherings scaling back the usual Town activities, it’s good that St Andrew’s can still provide an opportunity for people to get together to commemorate our freedom.”
