Saturday 01 July 2023

Alderney has announced a ban on garden sprinklers, starting on Tuesday, after a prolonged dry spell.

The General Services Committee (GSC) says the ban covers all residential gardens and grounds but does not include hand-held watering cans or hoses.

Residents are told they can also help to conserve water by restricting the use of hosepipes to early morning or in the evening during hot, dry weather.

GSC Chair Lin Maurice said they are taking action to conserve water now, because sprinklers use so much

“Water is so precious especially in times of potential drought as we are experiencing right now, and I know that we will all work together to save as much water as we can.”

The ban is due to come into force on July 4th and will remain in place until further notice.
