“Spotted walking out of the sea” after search launched for ‘missing man’

Monday 15 July 2024

A multi-agency search was launched after a man went for a swim at Cobo, only for him to be seen ‘walking out the sea’ more than two hours after he got in.

At 18:00 on Sunday [15 July] the sister of a 31-year-old man called emergency services an hour and a half after the man had gone for a swim at Cobo.

The Guernsey Coastguard launched the Channel Islands Airsearchaircraft, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s all weather lifeboat and the RNLI’s inshore lifeboat.

Guernsey Police were also called in to search on land.

The Coastguard has since released the following statement:

“At 6:47pm the male in question was spotted walking out of the sea by Police officers who were conducting searches on the beach opposite the Cobo Bay fish and chip shop.

“After checking that the male was unharmed, all Search and Rescue craft were stood down.”
