Spinathon raises record amount for charity

Tuesday 29 January 2019

The fifth annual charity 'spinathon' has broken its own previous fundraising record, with almost £5,000 raised so far.

The money is still coming after Saturday's six hour effort to raise money for Guernsey Mind.

It was organised by Lyndsay Simon, who has now organised five of the events and is already been encouraged to arrange a sixth next year to satisfy her army of spinners.

This time round, friends, colleagues and other willing volunteers took to the saddle for between one and six hours each, with instructors from Beau Sejour's gym donating their time to take an hour long session each.

With each person donating a minimum of £10 for each hour of spinning, the money came in quickly but has been bolstered by other generous donations.

By last night the total had reached £4,200 with more money expected to be added to that total.

Ms Simon said; "overwhelmed is an understatement, but we have managed to hit a total so far of £4,200 for Saturday’s event for Guernsey Mind which is just truly amazing!"

The amount of money raised has grown each year that Ms Simon has organised these events, since she first arranged one as a one-off for Autism Guernsey five years ago. Other chosen causes so far include Jake's Heartfelt Funds and Bowel Cancer Guernsey.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everybody who either took part or gave money to this cause. I am one happy lady right now," said Miss Simon.
