In order to reinstate the viewing area "without the loss of any of the additional parking spaces" that were previously introduced, it was proposed to change the four newly created parking spaces against the eastern wall of the car park to parking for small cars.

"This would then provide sufficient space to allow visitors and locals to once again enjoy the panoramic views across the Little Russell afforded from this elevated position," a spokesperson for Traffic & Highway Services said.

"A consultation period was undertaken to gauge motorist’s views on the plan, however no comments were received."

As the proposal does not technically reduce parking provision in the area and the change supports the aims of Integrated Transport Strategy to provide additional parking for smaller vehicles where possible in St Peter Port, the plan has now been approved.

The new arrangement will be implemented with painted bays and new signs within the next few weeks and therefore motorists are asked to keep a look out for the changes.

"In addition, Traffic and Highway Services would like to advise motorists that the small car parking spaces on the Albert Pier have been adjusted to allow for slightly larger vehicles in line with North Beach and Crown Pier arrangements where vehicles up to 3.7m in length are able to use the spaces. The 3.7m length limit also applies to the spaces on the red light arm of the Albert Pier where some of the small car spaces are relocated during the cruise liner season."
