Touch team heads to European championship

Saturday 03 August 2019

A Guernsey touch rugby team is heading to the UK this weekend to take part in the first European Touch Club Championships.

Source will join 15 other mixed teams from across Europe in Maidenhead for the competition.

"This is an exciting competition for Guernsey to have received an invitation to attend," said Guernsey Touch Chair Ollie Ward. "Having won the 2018 Mixed Summer League title, the committee decided to offer the opportunity to Source to compete at this event.

"Should the Championship event prove a success, this is the format we intend to follow each year in order to give extra motivation to local teams competing in the KPMG Summer League."

Source has been competing in the KPMG Summer League since 2007 and the team won their first title in 2012.

"The whole team is looking forward to this weekend and have been training hard for it," said Source Captain Harry Burns. "It will be a challenging competition, with many of the players we will be facing having played in this year's Touch World Cup, but the team is up for it.

"I must also say a big thanks to Source Recruitment who have supported us for more than a decade and have helped fund tournament fees and travel costs."

The teams have been separated into three pools and each team will play the others in their respective pool to determine which will compete in the Cup, Plate and Bowl competitions.

Each game will be 25 minutes long and the finals of each competition will take place on day two.

The Source team players include:
Amy Davies
Carly Parrott
Chris Dawe
Etienne Le Vallee
Harry Burns
Jacques Le Vallee
James Monk
Lucy Pratt
Lynne Hamilton
Mitch Hamer
Ollie Ward
Rebekah Fant
Tanya Scholtz
Tom Zierer

The games on field one will be live streamed on the England Touch YouTube channel.
