The corona virus pandemic is affecting all areas of island life, with school administration now among the areas facing delays as education staff are focused on working in other areas at the moment.
Parents should have been receiving letters confirming which primary or secondary schools their child was due to attend from this September.
However, due to the outbreak of covid-19, there will be a delay of at least a few weeks.
The letters are usually sent to parents by the end of the spring term, which would have been before last Friday. That date has been pushed back this year, to at least next term, with an update now due sometime after the scheduled Easter break.
Ed Ashton, Director of Operations for Education, said they understand parents will want to know as soon as possible.
"For both Primary and Secondary admissions, it was expected that we would inform parents of their children’s placements for September 2020 by the end of this term. Due to the need to focus on the response to the coronavirus pandemic, unfortunately we are unable to fulfil that expectation.
"We realise that this is important information for both parents and children and are working to get the information to them as soon as possible. Please be assured that as soon as we have a realistic date, it will be published on the website at gov.gg/schooladmissions."

While places at Guernsey's States run primary schools are allocated based on parochial catchment areas in most cases, parents still need confirmation of which site their child will attend as pupil numbers fluctuate yearly.
With the recent 'pause and review' of the secondary school transformation project agreed, there might be some changes to the way places at the four high schools are allocated in the future.
A new feeder school system had been agreed, with a view to the schools moving to a one-school/two-colleges system within a few years.
With the first island wide election likely to be delayed by up to a year, the current Committee for Education, Sport and Culture might stay in position until then, having recently won a vote of confidence from their fellow States members.
The corona virus pandemic means the most recent States meeting was cancelled, but committee meetings continue to be held using online apps, meaning progress will be being made on the review part of the 'pause and review'.
