Some States roles to take pay cuts in 2020

Policy & Resources Committee Members and the Presidents of Scrutiny and Sacc could have their pay reduced from 2020.

That is what has been proposed by the Independent States Members' Pay Review Panel in its final report.

Every four years an independent panel is set up to make pay recommendations, which are then approved or amended by current Deputies ahead of the election which leads in to the next States term.

Under their proposals, the President of P&R will remain on the highest salary at £71,248 from 1 July 2020.

The next pay band, £54,777, will apply to the presidents of the six principal committees as well the President of the STSB, the Vice-President of P&R and that Committee's lead member for external relations - a new role created in 2016 that is currently held by Jonathan Le Tocq.

However, the two remaining P&R members - who are currently in the same pay band - would have their salary reduced to £46,599, where they would be joined by the Presidents of Scrutiny and Sacc. The President of the DPA would earn the same pay, with all other States of Guernsey Deputies taking home £40,521. 

It means that for 2020-21, the overall salary of the 38 States of Guernsey Deputies would be £1,728,922. 

States members pay goes up every year in line with increases in median earnings.
