Smith Street pharmacy flooded

Tuesday 23 October 2018

Hundreds of prescription pills have been destroyed after a flood inside the Co-op Locale pharmacy on Smith Street.

An internal pipe burst over the weekend, causing water to flood into the store and damage everything in the lower drawers.

People expecting to collect medicine from the pharmacy are advised that if their prescriptions had already been put together, it is still fine to collect as they were stored on the higher shelves, however new prescriptions would need to be collected from the other Co-op pharmacy in the Commercial Arcade.

Kinga Falvassy, the Pharmacist Manager, said she came in on Saturday morning to find the shop flooded, and while they had cleaned the shop up by yesterday afternoon, they did not know when they would get a new stock of medicine or be signed off to start trading again.

"While the shop is now clean the Co-op health and safety inspector has to sign the premises off as safe for the public," she said.

"I am hoping the shop may open on Wednesday, but the prescription service is another matter as the drawers containing all the pills were flooded and I had pills floating around in the water."

Anyone with questions about their prescriptions is asked to go into the shop, where Ms Falvassy will be able to help people. She is currently awaiting the new stock of prescription medicine to replace those lost to water damage.
