Humanitarian Aid Guernsey (HAG) Fundraising Coordinator, Liz Charlton, will be taking part in a skydive in aid of the charity.
Miss Charlton said she wanted to undertake a fundraising challenge to “keep the Ukraine war at the forefront of people’s minds”.
“The war isn’t in the news as much anymore and, while people still care, it’s important to remind islanders about the good work that HAG is doing to help refugees,” said Miss Charlton.
“With Guernsey having its own experiences of evacuation and occupation, it is an issue that is close to home for a lot of people.”

Miss Charlton became involved with HAG “in the first one or two weeks” of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
“I had been watching everything unfold on the news and I felt completely helpless. Then I saw a Facebook post from Natalia Silvester [HAG Founder] appealing for items to be donated to refugees and I wanted to help,” she said.
“I took my donations down to the drop-off point and I ended up staying there for eight hours to help sort the other donations. Since then, HAG has become a big part of my life; it’s sad that so much help is still needed but it’s good to know that we are making a difference.”
Miss Charlton has taken part in a skydive in New Zealand previously.
“When I saw that the opportunity was available here, I wanted to go for it because I’m hoping it will draw attention to HAG. I’m a little bit nervous, that will probably increase as it comes closer,” she said.

Miss Charlton continued: “There is a £350 deposit, which I have funded myself. I’ve set a fundraising target of £500 for HAG, and those funds will go directly towards getting donations where they are needed.
“We have been sending donations of clothes, medical equipment, toiletries, baby food and formula and even toys to those who have had to flee their homes. Some local children have written notes to go with their donations, so children receiving them will know that Guernsey is supporting them.”
The skydive will take place on 26 August.
