Seven laps of Guernsey challenge for brain tumour charity

Monday 01 July 2019

A local man will begin running seven laps of Guernsey, which is the equivalent of 10 marathons, between today and Sunday in aid of a brain tumour charity.

Ben Langlois has been training for the feat for months to raise funds in memory of his late uncle.

For the past three months Mr Langlois (pictured above) has been training every weekend for what will be one of the biggest challenges of his running career. These include taking on terrains in China where he has been staying, similar to the coastal paths in Guernsey which will form the vast majority of the route.

So far Mr Langlois has raised nearly £3,000 of his £8,000 target. You can donate via the Just giving page and catch up with his progress on the website

"Runs have included finishing my first 100km trail race in  Jinhua, a 50km trail on the Great Wall in Mutianyu, a wet 50km in Tsaigu, a 2-day adventure race in Maotai, a Wuxi road marathon as well as a few half marathons, 10km and 5km runs. A great way to explore rural China!," he said.

Sponsored by Intersport, Mr Langlois is hoping to raise much needed funds for The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of his uncle.

"My uncle recently passed away from a very aggressive brain tumour. It was incredibly sudden and is a difficult loss for our family to bear," he said.

The last four weeks has seen Mr Langlois step up his training with ever increasing frequency along trail routes before returning to the island where he hopes others can join him for all or part of the route when he sets off today.

"It would be great if some runners would like to join me on the run for sections. Send me an email at benjamin.langlois3@gmail.com if you are interested so we can arrange a time and a place for us to join up. I will start at 05:00 each day from Port Soif. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday will be a clockwise loop and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday will be an anti-clockwise loop," he said.
