Schooly McSchoolface?

Tuesday 16 April 2019

There have been more than 600 responses so far, as the States look for help in naming Guernsey's two new secondary school campuses.

With plans progressing for the 'one school' model, which will see students studying at either the current Les Beaucamps or St Sampson's High sites in the future, things like the uniforms and school names also need to be decided.

As expected some people have suggested the joke moniker 'Schooly McSchoolface' while others have highlighted the current Bailiff and Lieutenant Governor in their choices, suggesting Collas and Corder as the campus names.

Some of the other suggestions for the overall 'one school' name include:

  • Bailiwick School
  • Guernsey School
  • L’Academie de Guernesiaise
  • L’Ecole Guernesiaise
  • Lisia School
  • Sarnia School
  • The Guernsey Academy
  • The School of Guernsey

The two separate 'colleges' could be called something like:

  • Admiral James de Saumarez
  • Casquets
  • Daniel de Lisle Brock
  • Hanois
  • Major-General Sir Isaac Brock
  • Marjorie Ozanne
  • Maria Rosetti
  • Sibyl Hathaway
  • Victor Hugo

The Committee for Education, Sport and Culture still wants some more ideas before it makes a final decision on what the names of the one school and its two campuses will be.

ESC says it will make a decision before the end of this academic year.

To suggest any other names, you can fill in a form online at gov.gg/nameourschool or email educationfuture@gov.gg or write to The Education Office, States of Guernsey, Sir Charles Frossard House, La Charroterie, GY1 1FH before midnight on Sunday 21 April.
