Information about the candidates for Sark’s first contested election since 2018 has been published, with residents asked to attend an informal meeting where views can be exchanged next week.
Invitations have gone out for candidates and islanders to meet at the Island Hall for an hour-and-a-half on 5 September, but it isn’t a requirement for anyone to attend.
Chief Pleas’ Speaker and Returning Officer, Paul Armorgie said it won’t be a “formal hustings event, but rather a chance for each nominated candidate to be seated at individual tables where they can talk and listen informally to individual members of the Sark public on a one-to-one basis”.
He added that he hopes the event is “well supported” by the community.
In preparation the four candidates, who are vying for three empty seats in the island’s parliament, have written a synopsis about themselves.
All households will also receive a printed copy of candidates’ biographies by post on Monday, with it also available on the government website.
The election takes place on September 7. Ballots must be cast at the Island Hall between 10:00 and 18:00, with counting to take place in the main hall that evening.
