Some community events are planned in Sark to mark today's Liberation Day anniversary.
It is 73 years since the end of the German Occupation which lasted five years during Dame Sybil Hathaway's tenure as Seigneur of the island.

The island was liberated a day after Guernsey and Jersey as the British Army sailed to Sark on Thursday 10 May 1945 to relieve the German Commandant stationed there, arresting all Nazi forces making them Prisoners of War.
To mark the anniversary, the island will be visited by a number of Chelsea Pensioners and Ghurkas today, representing those who fought for the Allied Forces between 1940 and 1945.

There is also a guided walk entitled 'Echoes of Occupation & Liberation' starting at Creux Harbour at 11:15 costing £8 per person.
Tour guide Jan Guy will be taking guests on a long walk around the island, taking in some of the buildings which played a significant part during the occupation years, including information from a number of sources.
From 12:30 there is a community picnic being held at the Island Hall and Millennium Field. The Chelsea Pensioners and Ghurkas will be in attendance along with island residents and any visitors are invited to join in.
