Sark Electricity price continues to drop

Thursday 17 August 2023

The price of electricity in Sark has dropped for a second time this year.

Sark Electricity Limited said it is delighted “to be able to finally begin delivering upon our long held ambitions for cheaper and safer electricity on Sark”.

It’s a far cry from the position just last year, when the Managing Director of SEL continued to lament unavoidable price hikes.

People in Sark have historically had to deal with consistent price hikes, culminating in a price of 53p per unit at the start of this year.

The figure dropped to 44p per unit on 1 August, and it’ll drop another 4p to 40p per unit on 1 September.

“Sark Electricity Limited (SEL) is delighted to confirm that the benefits of the new Price Control Mechanism agreed between SEL and The New Sark Electricity Price Control Commissioner Mr Shane Lynch (The OPC) continue to positively impact unit prices for electricity on Sark,” said Alan Witney-Price, MD.

“As a result the unit price will reduce by a further 4p from 44p per unit to 40p per unit with effect from 1st September 2023.

“This is excellent news for our customers and the team at SEL are delighted to be able to finally begin delivering upon our long held ambitions for cheaper and safer electricity on Sark.”
