The Guernsey Mind Investec 10k Challenge was originally meant to go ahead in September but was called off due to rain.

As the event took place on Sunday though, the benefits of that delay became clear, as grey skies parted, and the event ended up with more people taking part than originally planned.

The extra numbers were helped by some taking part in the event remotely, as they were not on island for the postponed event.

Guernsey Mind say one participant took on their 10k as far away as Florida.

Amanda Hibbs, the Communications and Events Lead for Guernsey Mind, said: “We are very grateful to Guernsey Athletics, KGV, Civil Protection, the Police, St John, our marshals and helpers and, of course, our sponsors Investec for helping us in getting a new date in place.

“As it turns out, the weather on Sunday was perfect, and we ended up with more people signing up to take part.”

Jo Cottell, the Chief Executive of the mental health charity said: “This event is not only one of our main fundrasiers, but also raises awareness about mental health and wellbeing. We all know exercise is beneficial for our bodies, but it is equally crucial for our minds.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has taken part and supported and we are delighted to say that we have raised over £10,000 from this event.”

Anna Malcolm, sponsorship coordinator at Investec, said: “It’s a fundamental part of the Investec culture and values to contribute to the communities we operate in, and it’s such a joy to partner with Guernsey Mind.

“It was fantastic to see a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for everyone taking part, be they an experienced runner or someone challenging themselves.  I’m proud of the members of our team who took part, as well as those who volunteered with marshalling on the day.”
