Raiders welcome Bury St Edmunds

Saturday 05 January 2019

Guernsey Raiders are back in action for the first time since the Christmas break, with Bury St Edmunds the visitors to Footes Lane today.

Kicking off at 14:00, the Raiders are looking to "kick off the new year on a high!"

It's the first game for the Guernsey men since December 22 when they lost away to Worthing. On that occasion they took it to the final whistle before losing 43-36.

Guernsey Raiders need a win today as they sit just below the relegation zone at the moment with 20 points from 16 games, compared to visitors Bury St Edmunds in 8th place with 39 points. There are 13 games remaining this season in National 2 South.

Guernsey Ladies play for the first time in 2019 next weekend, when they host London Welsh Ladies at Footes Lane on Saturday 12 January.

There'll be even more cause for celebration than usual at Footes Lane today though, with the President of Guernsey Raiders expected to be congratulated on receiving an honour from Her Majesty The Queen.

Adrian Le Page was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in Her Majesty's New Year Honours.

The MBE is for his services to rugby in Guernsey, having been involved with the Club for many years.
