Rabeys stock goes to auction

Wednesday 26 April 2023

Vehicles and other assets owned by Rabeys are going under the hammer through a UK auctioneer appointed by the firm's Joint Liquidators.

Rabeys Commercial Vehicles went under earlier this month, following the collapse of the Garenne Group.

27 staff lost their jobs in Guernsey, with the Jersey firm folding a week later with further job losses.

Joint Liquidators were appointed to Rabeys, along with the Garenne Group and other businesses under the umbrella company which have entered voluntary liquidation in recent weeks.

Those Joint Liquidators are holding a creditors meeting on Friday where anyone with a claim against Rabeys can attend. That's being held at St James from 09:00.

The Joint Liquidators have also appointed (Nottingham headquartered) National auction house, John Pye & Sons Ltd, to sell off vehicles and assets from across the firm's two Channels Island branches.

Ben Ernstzen, Business Assets Valuer at John Pye, said it's a sad situation but they can help achieve a positive end result for creditors by managing the sale of assets.

“John Pye Auctions is always sorry to see a long-established business facing this situation. Rabeys has a great reputation in Guernsey and we’ll do our best to secure the best value we can."

Trevor Palethorpe, Joint Head of John Pye Business & Property confirmed a quick sale of assets can be achieved.

“We have the systems and knowledge in place to ensure we can sell the Rabeys’ stock with the highest level of efficiency through our online network. Our UK-wide footprint of close to 1,000,000 sq ft of sale space and a nationwide workforce of over 700 staff ensures we can handle the largest of insolvency cases.”

The Guernsey based Rabeys Garage offered a range of services including fleet leasing, new and used vehicles, servicing and fleet maintenance.

John Pye Auctions is selling some of that fleet stock via online auction including 2022 Fiat Doblo Cargo 1.6 multijet vans, 2023 Renault traffic vans and 2022 Renault trucks. A Renault Truck 29 Low Loader is also among the lots.

The auction lots also cover tools, garage plant and equipment including Stertil Koni Column Lifts, a range of Axel Stands and Trolly Jacks, Sealey Repair Kits and selected Hand Tools.

The lots can be viewed HERE.
