Proms tradition continues on the Pier

Saturday 08 September 2018

2018's annual Proms on the Pier is on this evening, once again returning to the Albert Pier.

Guernsey's Summer Finale, the 2018 Proms on the Pier is described by the organisers as "a celebration of world-class orchestral music, singing and history."

The event, as usual, coincides with the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall in London, and will feature the 70 strong Guernsey Symphony Orchestra for the third time, and the first time since 2015.

Things will kick off at 19:30, and are expected to run through until 22:40.

Music will include the soundtracks of blockbuster movies such as Rocky, Lawrence of Arabia, 007 Through The Years, Harry Potter and Jurassic Park - to name but a few - alongside two ‘Danzon’ compositions by Leonard Bernstein and Mexican composer Arturo Márquez.

The second half of the evening will see the Royal Albert Hall streamed to the pier live, starting at 21:00.

Sir Andrew Davis, the former Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and veteran steersman of the Last Night, will return to the conductor’s podium, and the lineup will feature some Broadway with 'Soliloquy' from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel along with the unmistakable Jerusalem in the centenary year of Hubert Parry’s death.
