People will now be able to look online at what progress has been made in the drafting of new legislation under changes made by the States of Guernsey.
The Policy & Resources Committee has published details online that allow islanders to check the status of forthcoming Guernsey or Bailiwick-wide legislation as it progresses from States approval to implementation.
The details provide a snapshot of the status of each piece of legislation, which P&R President Gavin St Pier hopes will better inform people about the work government does in this area.
“We know that islanders increasingly want to engage with the legislative process, particularly in regard to issues that they feel strongly about," he said. "Transparency is a key principle of any democracy and this information will enable everyone to see, at a glance, the status of our forthcoming laws.”

The published information applies to new or amended legislation for Guernsey or the Bailiwick as a whole.
Once the States of Deliberation agrees to create or amend a law, the forthcoming legislation has to pass through several stages within the legislative drafting process before it can take effect. The stages vary depending on the type of legislation for example primary legislation (a Projet de Loi) or secondary legislation (an Ordinance).
The information can be accessed at gov.gg/newlegislation.
