A new workshop is opening today, showcasing wooden products designed and built by inmates at Guernsey's prison.
The new wooden showroom and outlet is based outside of Les Nicolles prison, and has been created thanks to funding from Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands and the Lions Club of Guernsey.
The products are all made on behalf of Creative Learning in Prison (CLIP) which is a charity that acts to "facilitate prisoner’s access to learning through exposure in recognised art, craft and trade skills."
CLIP said the showroom will feature products made in the workshop by prisoners, many of whom who will be working towards a City & Guilds qualification in vocational skills including basic carpentry.
Any money raised from the proceeds of sales of the items will go back into the educational activities that CLIP provide at Les Nicolles Prison, such as photography workshops and craft classes.
Some of the items designed and built for sale by the inmates will be on display today, including handmade wooden furniture, bespoke wooden craft items like clocks or ornaments, as well as arts and crafts items and produce from the kitchen garden.
