Days after the committee's flagship budget proposal was defeated, a planned Scrutiny hearing with P&R has been put back until next year.
The Scrutiny Management Committee Public Hearing with the Policy & Resources Committee was due to take place tomorrow morning.
But, P&R has asked for it to be deferred until January.
Deputy Yvonne Burford, President of the Scrutiny Management Committee said they've obliged "under the circumstances".
“Following last week’s budget debate, the Policy & Resources Committee has written to Scrutiny requesting a postponement of the Public Hearing that was due to take place on Friday, stating that they will not be in a position to meaningfully answer questions on any aspects of the capital portfolio or associated issues in any detail until further work has been done.
"Under the circumstances, the Scrutiny panel have agreed to this request and to rescheduling the hearing on 10th January.”
The hearing was only announced on 5 November, the day the 2025 Budget debate started.
That announcement said that P&R would be questioned by Deputy Burford, and deputies Simon Fairclough and Gavin St Pier.
It's not been confirmed whether the same panel, or new members, will convene for the rescheduled hearing in January.
By then P&R is expected to have carried out some 'emergency work' to juggle the island's finances in light of the proposed 10% rise in income tax being rejected.
That would have brought in millions of pounds immediately, while work to shore up the island's finances was ongoing in the background. But, because the States rejected the revenue raising measure - instead voting for a GST+ package to be introduced from 2027 - P&R has warned that cut backs will need to be made with a review of major building projects already mooted.
While members of the public can't ask any questions at Scrutiny's public hearings, they can attend to watch in person or watch online.
A Scrutiny hearing held with Education, Sport, and Culture earlier this week focused on the committee's wider mandate but the budget debate and the implications of decisions made did crop up.
