A motion of no confidence has been lodged against the Policy and Resources Committee.
Deputy Charles Parkinson has led the motion, which requires seven deputies to write to the Committee and ask for it to resign.
It comes just days after P&R saw its preferred option in the Funding and Investment Plan - the introduction of GST combined with borrowing and social security reform – defeated.
Deputy Peter Ferbrache immediately indicated that his Committee would seek to trigger an early election rather than resign, arguing that the current tranche of deputies can’t agree on any “key topic”.
Despite this, a motion of no confidence always seemed inevitable.
The seven deputies who’ve now written to P&R are; Charles Parkinson, Andy Cameron, David de Lisle, Marc Leadbeater, Aiden Matthews, Andy Taylor, and Simon Vermeulen.
Deputy Parkinson said: "I have this afternoon sent a formal written request to the members of Guernsey’s Policy & Resources Committee (’P&RC’), asking them to resign their membership of that Committee."
P&R has just five days to resign, otherwise the seven deputies responsible for the motion can elevate it to the Bailiff and have it debated in the States' chamber, which is something the seven deputies have already indicated they will do.
The idea that the Committee might willingly resign seems unlikely as it only just published a statement indicating that it would attempt to stay in post.
