Some parking on the east arm will shortly return as Guernsey Ports moves into the final stages of pontoon replacement in the QEII marina.
The £1.4m project started earlier this year and boats, 120 of which were temporarily placed on the car parking spaces, are now back in the water thanks to the installation of brand-new pontoons.
A worksite will remain at the end of the east arm for three more weeks, but over half of the car parking spaces will be available for public use soon. Temporary 10-hour spaces on North Beach will also be changed back to three-hour spots.
The old pontoons date back to the 1980s when the marina was constructed, and new market-leading versions have been installed featuring galvanised steel to serve some of the largest moorings in the island.
Project Manager Jenny Giles said power and water upgrades realised through the installation will soon be extended to neighbouring infrastructure within the same budget.
Assistant Harbourmaster Kieran Higgs said: “The location of D & E pontoons, closest to the marina gates, boasts the deepest water across all four of our marinas. This makes it perfectly suited to larger vessels, particularly sailboats with deeper drafts, which are currently in high demand.
“The project has not only enhanced our facilities, but it has also allowed us to optimise this area's layout to specifically address the demand for larger vessels and better serve our customers' needs."
