Police station to close slightly earlier

Friday 08 March 2019

The front desk at Guernsey Police Station will start closing two hours earlier on week days from later this month, so officers can work on other matters during their evening shifts.

The force says the desk, which is staffed by support officers and previously by police officers when support officers weren't available, will be open between 07:00 and 19:00 on weekdays, and between 08:00 and 16:00 over weekends and on bank holidays from 18 March.

Guernsey Police said this is just a reduction of two hours per weekday. The front desk will still be staffed for 76 hours over seven days, so members of the public can deal with non-urgent matters including routine enquiries, document production and to report any incidents.

Outside of the hours detailed above, any urgent matters will still be dealt with in person at the Police Station but callers will have to use an intercom system on the front door which links directly to the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre.

Any non urgent callers will be asked to come back during office hours.

Guernsey Police said; "the change to the opening hours will allow police officers to be utilised more efficiently and effectively, particularly in responding to incidents within the community.

"The change to the opening hours for the Enquiry Office is a trial and we shall review its effect during the coming months before a decision is made on any permanent change.

"And, of course, our front line officers will continue to be available for emergencies, island-wide at all times."
