The former St Martin's Hotel could finally be coming down after permission was granted for it to be demolished.
The latest planning application concerning the hotel was submitted just before Christmas last year, with both Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services (ACLMS), and La Societe Guernesiaise giving their approval to the demolition as consultants.
Both organisations were involved as the demolition request includes a protected tree, however those behind the planning approval says “the proposal is unlikely to have a significant adverse on trees, the quality of the environment, natural resources or biological diversity and an Environmental Impact Assessment is not required.”
The derelict hotel has been a topic for planning and development for a number of years, having seen numerous proposals to be developed into flats and housing, following a successful switch to a lodging house back in 2007.
You can find the full proposal on the gov.gg portal HERE.
This comes 10-years after the owners were last granted permission to demolish the hotel and replace it with homes, but no work commenced at that time, and the permission lapsed in 2017.
The redundant hotel has been empty for more than a decade and has suffered significant structural damage due to fires in that period, leaving the structures in disrepair.
