Panel to review States Members' pay

Tuesday 04 September 2018

An independent Pay Review Body will review the pay structure of States’ Members before reporting back to the Policy & Resources Committee by the end of the year.

The review is being conducted to make recommendations that would apply following the General Election in June 2020 and will not impact Members during the remainder of this political term.

A report is likely to be taken to the States for debate during the first half of 2019.

The recommendations of the previous Independent Review Panel for States’ Members’ Pay, established in 2015, were agreed by the last Assembly and set the pay structure for this political term.

The new Pay Review Panel will consider pay levels for the range of States’ Member and Non-States Member roles within the new system of government. The Panel will recommend whether the current levels of pay are appropriate for the varying responsibilities, given that the new structure of government has now had sufficient time to establish.

Alex Rodger, a former Commissioner of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, will Chair the Pay Review Body for a second time. He will be joined again by former Guernsey Press Editor Richard Digard. New to the Pay Review Panel are Source Recruitment Director Julia Martin and Carol Goodwin who brings her extensive board experience as an IoD Chartered Director.

A workshop with States’ Members is planned and members of the public and other interested parties will also be invited to make submissions.
