VOTE NOW: The Pancake World Cup

Tuesday 25 February 2020

Today is Shrove Tuesday - or pancake day - and as we celebrate the monumental occasion, Bailiwick Express took a moment to step back from the raging river of Guernsey news to ask one crucial question.

What is the best topping to have on a pancake?

Or maybe you'd prefer we said FILLING IN a pancake?

Once we posed that question in our newsroom, the inevitable argument began. Is a classic English pancake, or crepe, better? Or is a thick American pancake the way to go? And what topping (or filling!) is best?

The final:

Create your own user feedback survey

As cries of "Lemon and Sugar is best" started to ring out, and our resident chef began to lecture us on how the first pancake of a batch is always a bust, we decided an answer to all of our pancake related queries must be found once and for all.

And if the Education debate has taught us anything, it's that the Guernsey public knows best. So please vote, so we can establish a firm winner and put a stop to this debate once and for all.

If this poll has put you in a pancake mood, supporters of the Guernsey Cheshire Home are meeting at the Town Church tomorrow for its 10th Pancake Day Fundraiser to raise money for a new car for the Home's residents.

"We have chefs coming from the Old Government House Hotel and Spa (as they have for the whole 10 years this event has been running!), Mora Restaurant & Bar’s pastry chef will be joining us for the first time, La Fregate Hotel for the second time and La Perla’s ex boss has offered to help as well," a spokesperson for the event said. "They will be cooking some delicious pancakes, as will one of our resident chefs; Calum, our relief chef; Jimmy, as well as one of our carers; Shannon who made some great pancakes last year!

"We also have a raffle, handmade jewellery, teas & coffees and home made cakes. [It] will also be the first opportunity to buy a ticket for our Car Lottery."
