A project to restore coastal grassland at Grandes Rocques has experienced “unforeseen delays” leading to it being returned to use as an overflow car park.
The car park has been the focus of divided opinion, after a petition was recently launched to reopen it to the public.
The petition was launched by a frustrated couple who took issue with how busy the remaining carpark has been.
Only a week later and the States of Guernsey have announced the re-opening of the overflow carpark.
“Due to unforeseen delays in the coastal grassland habitat restoration project at Grandes Rocques, the land has been temporarily reopened for use as a seasonal overflow car park until the end of the summer holidays,” a spokesperson said.
“The area, as planned, will be permanently closed from that point onward. This latest restoration project will boost the biodiversity of the area and provide a link for nature between the end of the headland and other nearby areas of coastal grassland.”
Express has asked for further clarification on the "unforeseen delays".
