Over 70 people attending this year’s Salvation Army lunch

Tuesday 24 December 2019

As many as 74 people will be benefiting from this year's Salvation Army hosted Christmas lunch, to ensure they don't have to spend "the most wonderful time of the year" on their own.

The charity are hosting the massive Christmas lunch event once again tomorrow, with a morning Christmas Carol service and live entertainment after the three course feast.

It aims to bring people together on Christmas and ensure that when they can't spent the day with family or friends, they still have others to enjoy festivities with.

The Salvation Army’s Major Jamie Hill said this year's lunch was bigger than the last, and it has been growing year-on-year.

"Numbers are up and down at the moment but we will have between 70 and 74 people, and that is much more than a few years ago, when we were just serving 50 or so people," he said.

"They're all people that would be on their own otherwise. We even try to make sure our volunteers are people who might not have any plans, so they can get involved as well.

"I have to say a big thank you to our community, because all of this is done on good will and donations. We would never be able to get all of the food ready, or afford it all without the support of the island."

After lunch, and before watching the Queen's Speech, the people attending the event will be able to enjoy live entertainment from Andrew Hyde and his family, who has volunteered his time.
