The Old Barn will be moving into the Alderney Airport café following the previous operator pulling out at short notice.
On Monday 31 July Express reported that the previous concessionaire of the Aviator Café would end their contract with Alderney Airport within the day. The sudden decision left Alderney’s airport with only a water dispenser for people passing through.
Guernsey Ports said at the time that work was underway to find a replacement in time for Alderney Week (7-12 August).
That replacement has now been found.
The Old Barn is a restaurant near Longis Bay and it’ll be stepping in to operate the Aviator Café under a fixed-term agreement with Alderney Airport. It’s moving equipment into the café today (3 August) and will begin a food and beverage service tomorrow (4 August).
The Old Barn will provide its services while planning for the Alderney Airport redevelopment continues, and a full tender process for the long-term concessionaire will take place in 2024.
