"No recollection" of prolonged assault in the Pollet

Two men have been given lengthy community service orders for their part in a "drawn-out" scuffle in the Lower Pollet.

Reece Moore, 20, was shown his actions on CCTV after a heavy night in town. He appeared alongside Thomas Wood, 28, in the Magistrate’s Court, having both been involved in a violent altercation outside Fusion.

Moore and Wood got involved in a drawn-out scuffle involving a number of people. Wood decided to confront the perpetrator of an alleged assault on his friend.

CCTV footage shown in court showed Wood "going to ground" with the man after a brief argument.

Meanwhile, Moore took it upon himself to attack a bystander who was trying to help, striking him multiple times in the face in a prolonged assault. When questioned by the police he said he couldn’t remember the incident at all.

Both men pleaded guilty and were sentenced to community service orders. Wood was handed the maximum 180 hours and Moore, the younger of the pair, was handed 140 hours.

When passing his sentence, Judge Graeme McKerrell commented on Wood taking justice into his own hands.

“Resorting to violence resolves nothing," he scolded.
