"No further action" after dog incident

The incident which led to a dog being shot dead has been investigated and there'll be "no further action" against either the pet owner or the police officer.

The Staffordshire bull terrier was put down after an incident on Ruette de la Tour last month.

Eye-witness to the incident, Shane Gaudion, told Express that it was a shocking and scary experience.

He said the "savage" attack on a smaller dog, which left three adults also injured, had been distressing for everyone who saw it.

Mr Gaudion had held the dog's jaw open to release the smaller dog which was gripped, and then he restrained the animal until armed police officers arrived. Then, on advice from the States Vet, David Chamberlain, the decision was made to 'neutralise' the Staffordshire bull terrier.

Since that incident on 28 November, an investigation has been underway.

Now, a Bailiwick Law Enforcement spokesman has said all the evidence has been considered by the Law Officers and no further action will be taken.

“A full police investigation into the circumstances that lead to the dog attack and the use of force was completed, and then as per procedure in all cases, the matter was referred to the Law Officers. The decision by them was that no further action would be taken against the owner.

"The Law Officers were also supportive of the appropriate action taken by Guernsey Police at the scene in Ruette de la Tour, Castel.”
