Nightingale secures two world titles in five weeks

Sunday 23 October 2022

Andrea Nightingale has had a successful few weeks cycling in Europe after she won two World Championship events and placed third in another.

Mrs Nightingale, who is sponsored by Ravenscroft, retained her age group title at the 2022 World Triathlon Multisport Championships – Long Distance Age-Group Aquabike in August.

Less than a month later, she competed in two events at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Trento, Italy where she placed third in the individual time trial and seventh in the road championships.

The following week she topped the podium at the European Aquabike Championships in her age group, having finished almost seventeen minutes ahead of the next competitor.

‌In each of these events Mrs Nightingale was the first athlete from Great Britain. She has now qualified for the World and European Aquabike Championships next year.

She said: “I knew the TT race in Trento would be tough as I was competing against two ex-professionals. So to finish third, less than two minutes behind 13-time world champion Jeannie Longo, is the best result I could have hoped for

It’s been an incredible few weeks and I feel privileged to have been able to compete alongside some of the best in the world and fly the Guernsey flag.

It hasn’t always been easy, there have been some tough races to get through, but I’ve achieved the goals I set out to so I’ve very happy about that. I’m very grateful for the support from Ravenscroft, which has allowed me to continue doing what I love.

‌Mrs Nightingale will finish her racing season next month with the World Age-Group Triathlon Championship Finals in Abu Dhabi.
