The inaugural Women’s Channel Islands League, sponsored by Condor, gets underway this weekend, with four of the six teams set to be in action.
Guernsey Northerners and Guernsey Ladies FC plus JTC Jersey Wanderers, St Lawrence, Rozel Rovers and Grouville (all Jersey), will compete in the division this season, and for the first time matches will be played in both islands, with all six teams facing each other home and away.
Condor is subsidising the inter-island travel to make the competition financially viable.
“We’re excited to get going in the new CI League and looking forward to testing ourselvesagainst the Guernsey-based opposition as well as the Jersey sides,” said JTC Jersey Wanderers Captain Lauren Quemard.
“We had a really successful season last year and we’re hoping to build on that, with somenew players coming in this season.”
The league kicks off on Saturday when Rozel Rovers host new club Guernsey Ladies FC at Le Couvent (15:00), before Grouville take on St Lawrence at Le Boulivot on Sunday (10:30).
Tracey Peters, Condor Ferries’ Community Officer, added: “We are committed to improving travel links with the islands for sport and other activities so are delighted to support the launch of the league this season.”
