One of the Commercial Arcade’s most prominent buildings could become serviced visitor apartments, if planning permission is granted.
Silvester Ltd and Mrs N Silvester are seeking to change the protected buildings 29-33 from retail to visitor accommodation use, and extend an existing flat on the upper floors, to form four units.
Each would have private access and be fully fitted for self catering.
A reduction in size of the east-facing chimney stack is also proposed.
The application only includes these upper floors of the buildings for accommodation, but a restaurant and reception desk has already been proposed for the ground floor, with the other floors already subject to different approved planning applications.
These plans were submitted for the buildings in 2019, 2021, and 2022 to make changes to the basement, ground floor, and third and fourth floors.
The earliest application sought change of use from retail to form three residential units,
The basement would be used for kitchens and staff facilities.
These earlier applications were made by Esher Investments Limited.
The buildings fall within a site of special significance and a Main Centre under the Island Development Plan.
The application FULL/2023/0870 can be viewed online.
