A new 1.3 metre-wide 'footway' has been painted on Rue de Bordeaux and Castle Road.
It comes after the Vale Douzaine “persistently” reached out to Traffic and Highway Services for mitigation measures.
Preliminary line markings appeared earlier this year. The official line markings also include a bollard to identify where cars need to give pedestrians space.
Traffic and Highway Services posted the following on social media:
"Lots of you have already been enjoying the new pedestrian walkway which has been painted on Rue des Bordeaux and Castle Road to improve road safety!
"As well as the walkway and adjustments of the junction line markings, a bollard has been installed on the junction between the two roads so that vehicles turning left onto Castle Road will be required to give more space to those walking.
These small changes support a couple of the objectives of our Integrated Transport Strategy:
➡ To improve safety for all road users, particularly vulnerable road users
➡ To increase the number of journeys made by alternative forms of transport, particularly active travel modes"
