A new inter-island ferry service specifically for foot passengers is set to launch in Spring 2024.
In a statement online Islands Unlimited said it is in the “final stages of establishing a seasonal foot-passenger ferry service primarily between Guernsey and Jersey”.
“We recognise that connectivity between the Channel Islands continues to be a challenge for visitors, islanders and the Tourism Trade in general,” said a spokesperson.
“We intend to focus on the day-trip market, along with providing connections for the 2-centre holiday market and island hopping for tour operators.”
The launch will initially be on a trial basis.
The ferry will have a capacity of roughly 240 people and will offer a small number of planned sailings to Alderney as well.
“We are conscious that we do not conflict with the Alderney Ferry Service and PSO with Aurigny which is why we are not offering a 'regular' passenger service to Alderney. Any services to Alderney will be focused on a day trip option with hopefully a tour offering. Tour operators believe that there will be interest in the direct Jersey/Alderney day trip offering,” continued the spokesperson.
“Our Mission is to deliver reliable and safe inter-Channel Island sea links, improving sea connectivity for visitors and islanders, in close co-operation with Visit Guernsey, Visit Jersey, Visit Alderney, the Tourism Management Board as well as UK and European Tour Operators and Travel Agents.
“Our Vision is to become the preferred provider of inter-Channel Island foot passenger sea travel, connecting the islands with a competitive, reliable and customer friendly service which in turn will drive growth across the islands and establish greater opportunities to visitors and islanders. The service will be instrumental in increasing visitor numbers, duration of stay and, essentially, visitor spend.”
Tickets should go on sale in January 2024.
