A recruitment exercise is underway to find someone new to take over as Director of Guernsey's Employment & Equal Opportunities Service.
Stephen Glencross has run the service since its launch last year but he is now moving on to another role within the civil service.
Deputy Peter Roffey, President of the Committee for Employment & Social Security, which is responsible for the service, said Mr Glencross has done a great job over the past year.
“Stephen was the first person to lead the Employment & Equal Opportunities Service and has done an excellent job," he said.
"He will be moving into his next senior role in the first quarter of 2025 but will facilitate a smooth transition of the service to his successor.”
Mr Glencross said his successor will be able to make lives better for other people, which makes it a very worthwhile role for anyone who wants to build a more inclusive society.
“I am proud to have been given the opportunity to be Guernsey’s first Director of the Employment and Equal Opportunities Service and although I am sad to be moving on, my new role offers a career opportunity that I could not turn down," he said.
"The Director of the EEOS is a fantastic role because you get to play an active role in helping to make working lives better and build a more inclusive society. Helping to resolve employment and discrimination disputes and giving advice and guidance to both employers and employees on how to deal with difficult issues at work is very rewarding, both personally and professionally.
“During my time as Director, my team and I have worked hard to establish and build this service, and I am delighted with the progress we have made in setting a strong direction for the future. Although I am moving to a new role, I am sure that the service will continue to grow from strength to strength.”

The EEOS is an independent service that provides free and confidential advice and guidance relating to employment or discrimination to anyone in Guernsey.
The team can assist with general advice and guidance to help resolve disputes or on making complaints to the Employment and Discrimination Tribunal.
The Director of EEOS also has statutory powers of enforcement to ensure that Guernsey’s various employment and discrimination laws are being complied with. EEOS also provides advice to employers on steps they should be taking to avoid potential complaints, best practice to promote equality and inclusion in the workplace, and guidance on employment law.
The role was created when the Anti Discrimination law was approved by the States last year.
