A flooring company has been given permission to convert parts of its shop into a coffee shop complete with outside decking.
GFF can make some internal and external changes to make way for the small cafe in its retail unit which sits just off the mini roundabout at Ville Au Roi.
It had previously been granted permission for a near identical change in 2013 but it wasn’t carried out.
Planners approved the scheme but said no cooking will be allowed on site and restricted its opening hours between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekdays and 08:00 and 15:00 on Saturdays only.
The applicant hopes to serve cold food, cakes and sandwiches, however.
One person objected to the plans noting the shop has limited parking, is located on a busy junction, and fears that littering would increase, but Environmental Health and Pollution raised no objections.
“It is unlikely that the premises would have any significant adverse effect on adjoining properties. The comments from the representor have been noted, however, the potential for the increase in litter is not a material planning consideration that can be taken into account in the assessment of the application,” planning said in its decision notice.
“Situated on a Traffic Priority Route, the site is highly accessible by bus and alternative transport options, rather than the private car. The site is also situated within close proximity and well within walking distance to a public car parking area on the opposite corner to the site. Any shortfall in car parking provision is therefore considered to be acceptable in this particular instance.”
They also said no coffee can be served until permanent bicycle hoops are installed outside the building.
