Cook & Co. has just released their chamber music concept album, Sarnia Dreaming.
The launch at the Victorian Artist’s Society, Melbourne, featured excerpts from the three sections, Water, Time and Earth, performed by the Creative Director, Janis Cook at the piano and her colleagues, Andrew Macleod on flute/piccolo and bassoonist, Brock Imison.
Inspired by Guernsey and thoughts of seascape, landscape, and time, Sarnia Dreaming weaves compositions by John Ireland, Barry McKimm, and Robert Farnon into a designed aural journey. Although primarily beautiful chamber music, a few engaging reminiscences from Guernsey-born Bernard Blestel are seeded throughout the album.
Janis spoke about the elements of juxtaposition, chronological displacement, and enriching context in her unique curatorial approach, and the visit to Guernsey last Christmas/New Year—in the middle of storm Henk—to research the inspiration behind such evocative pieces as The Island Spell, Le Catioroc, and In a May Morning.
Sarnia Dreaming is now available for download and CD purchase. To hear a sample and place orders, visit www.bandcamp.com
