MSG buys premises in £7m deal

The Medical Specialist Group has taken over full ownership of Alexandra House and Mill House.

The MSG has acquired the premises from Vignon Properties, which was formed by the founding partners of the MSG in the 1990s.

The deal is worth £7m and the MSG’s management say it will secure a long-term base for outpatient services for the island.

The founding doctors of the MSG built Alexandra House in 1992 and, later, Mill House, as Vignon Properties.

“With the passage of time they have all now retired, so it was important for us as today’s partners to secure the buildings as medical practices,” said Dr Gary Yarwood, the current Chairman and a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.

“The deal achieves both security for our patients and the legacy of our pioneering founders. We are in a great location, close to the hospital for our consultants and with space for clinics and for the parking that outpatients need.”

Between the premises, there is capacity to run up to 22 clinics at a time, with the MSG averaging around 300 patients, 90% of whom attend by vehicle.

Dr Yarwood continued: “Securing our premises now allows us to go on to explore the possibility of developing Braye Lodge or alternative sites to meet the longer term needs of Guernsey patients, with an expected growth in need due to demography and technological developments.”
